Collected stories from 1938
This was a project set out in the late 1930's where the school pupils around Ireland were asked to do a project around the preserving the heritage of the country. There stories, Folklore, Traditions, Believes and Superstition. They talked local structures, places, animals and Birds. From Prizon school some 14 pupils and their teacher took part it submitting stories. We have the age of 12 given for one of the pupils (Jimmie Adams) along with some details of the local they talked to.
These stories all were put into a Premier copy book and the teacher would have made some corrections if required. Dúchas.ie have released these stories and have had volunteers transcribe the written text into typed. Although there is a great amount of checking done on the transcriptions mistakes will be made, along with some local sayings rather than proper English has been used. I have made very slight grammar corrections where needed but have tried to stay with the local words and expressions that may have been used. If you find any correction required on any of the stories feel free to let us know and we will review the story and make correction if needed.
These stories were compiled back in 1938. Preserving out heritage and folklore. More stories from around Ireland can be found on Dúchas.ie.
